The Exchange Conference Center alongside the water in Boston was the site for April’s joint meeting between the Boston Wedding Group (BWG) and the International Special Events Society (ISES) of New England. Once a year, the two leading groups of the Boston Wedding Industry come together to network and build relationships in a one-night event.

The Boston Wedding Group continued its 20 Acts of kindness initiative with a drive for the Dress for Success Program, which helps promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools to help them thrive in work and life. Motivational Speaker and Humorist Carol Ann Small was the headline speaker, as she tried to inspire the attendees to laugh more and create more positive energy into our lives. The meeting had a rejuvenation theme as professionals from both groups geared up for their upcoming busy spring season with chair massages, facials, make-up trials and tremendous food in this evening networking event.

Boston wedding professionals who sponsored the meeting included Ciao Bella Day Spa, Coffee Break Massage & Wellness, David Fox Photography, Easts Meets West Catering, Expresso Dave’s, The Exchange Conference Center, Jenny’s Wedding Cakes, JPod Films, Orchids and Blooms Wedding Design and Peterson Party Center. We were excited to see that Style Me Pretty decided to feature our quintessential Cape Cod wedding with Kate and Bryan on their blog this week. The Hyannis Wedding was a nautical-themed wedding with great little Cape Cod touches like yellow anchor socks for the boys, message bottle place cards at the reception and monkey knots and nautical ropes as appetizers at the cocktail hour just to name a few. I’ll let you read and see the rest of the details within the Style Me Pretty article. The reception took place at the beautiful Hyannisport Club which delivered a killer sunset over the Nantucket Sound and great photo opportunities with the couple. Both Kate and Bryan’s families were so warm and gracious throughout the process, as we felt like a part of the family all weekend long.

We worked alongside our Boston counterpart Ned Jackson Photography seamlessly throughout the wedding day. Ned’s awesome array of clean and classic pictures are featured throughout the Style Me Pretty post. If your looking for some Cape Cod inspiration for your wedding, check out the blog post and our Cape Cod Wedding Film with Kate and Bryan.

Our latest short film comes from the latest Boston Wedding Group meeting, which took place at the gorgeous Smith & Wollensky on Arlington Street in the Back Bay.  The steakhouse restaurant features fabulous event spaces with tall ceilings, historic artifacts and working fireplaces, as well as Smith and Wollensky’s own private reserve. On this night, Smith and Wollensky hosted the meeting showing off two incredible spaces that have incredible charm. The venue itself is situated inside of a historic stone and brick castle that was built in 1891. Smith and Wollensky truly spoiled the BWG with delicious appetizers including lobster rangoons, incredible beef sliders and a mac and cheese bar that warmed us through a another cold Boston winter night.

The feature speaker of the night was Jess Levin, Founder and CEO of Carats & Cake. Included in the short recap film are a couple of snippets of what Jess covered in her presentation, “Keeping it real online. Building and maintaining a personal business in the ever-changing digital world.”  The space looked gorgeous as Boston Wedding Group Members Marrero Events, Artistic Blossoms, Peterson Party Center featuring Table Toppers of Newton, Revelation Productions, and Cakes for Occasions all made the Arlington Street venue look amazing. I actually can’t wait to film another event at this top-notch venue.

As visual sponsors, we filmed alongside Johnson’s Photography to highlight the event. Check out photos from the evening on Johnson Photography’s BlogThe February meeting was the kick-off to the 20th year of the Boston Wedding Group, which included an updated logo unveiling and the beginning of the groups 20 Acts of Kindness. That kindness kicked off with a food drive to benefit the Boston Rescue Mission. I’m excited to see what the rest of the year has to come, but until then, here is a recap of the February meeting of the Boston Wedding Group.

Anybody who knows us well, knows that we are all about wedding industry education, especially for wedding cinematography and videography. Whether its learning, or sharing information, we like to be a part of it. This month, we were excited to share our thoughts on wedding cinematography with one of the industry leading websites called ProductionHUB.com.

ProductionHUB, which is a resource guide for production in media that includes film, video, broadcast and music, was looking to find out some tips for videographers try to improve their wedding videography skills. We shared some of our views on lighting, storytelling and appearance that we try to practice when filming our Boston wedding films. You can see the article HERE to find out some of our top wedding videography tips.

It has been a fun process over the past 10 years continuing trying to grow and evolve our wedding videography business into something much bigger and better. Well, this week a long term goal of ours was reached, as we have opened a new office space in the heart of Boston. Our Boston wedding filmmaker name of JPod Productions can now be found at 137 Newbury Street! We have partnered with five other great wedding businesses from the city to provide a space for our couples to meet us throughout the wedding planning process. When selecting a space in Boston, Newbury Street was always on the top of our list, because we felt that it matched our brand and the wedding films we are trying to produce.  The girls in my office are excited that we are located in the same building as Hotel Chocolat. We will definitely share more pictures of the space in the coming weeks. We are so excited!

JPod Productions was honored as one of the top filmmaking companies in New England for the third straight at the annual New England Professional Videographer’s Association’s (NPVA) VISTA awards last night in Dedham, MA. Our short Film, Jennifer + Michael’s Love Story was given the Silver Award in the “other” category. This Boston wedding video captures the story of how Jennifer Singer and Michael Marcus’ paths crossed and the journey that brought them to their wedding day. We premiered their film at their wedding reception just a few months ago. The reaction from that night was rewarding and electric and very similar to the response we get when we show a same day edit film.

Boston Award Winning wedding video

We were also honored and very humbled as one of the other winners, Elena Coyne, thanked JPod Productions Owner Jamie Podworski for inspiring her with a presentation he did in January at the NPVA on creating wedding trailers. Elena said she used the knowledge and inspiration from that night to edit one of her weddings before the VISTA deadline, which was only three days away at that time. That moment definitely defined why we participate in NPVA group, as filmmakers share knowledge with other filmmakers. It not only makes our Boston wedding videos better, but it makes our industry so much stronger as a whole.

The VISTA awards are a New England-based competition run by the New England Professional Videographer’s Association (NPVA). The NPVA is an organization of not only Boston wedding videographers and corporate producers, but also companies across New England who meet once a month to learn from regional and national speakers who specialize in the film making industry. Awards in the VISTA competition are presented in four categories including “Full Wedding”, “Wedding Highlight”, “Corporate”, and “Other”. The “Other” category is designed for videos that do not fit into the other three categories of the competition.

On February 18th, we spent a snowy afternoon with the International Special Events Society’s (ISES) New England Chapter for their monthly meeting at Legal Harborside in the Seaport District of Boston. It was a seafood lovers dream of a meeting with shrimp cocktail, oysters, sushi, and clam chowder on the luncheon menu.

The featured speaker of the day was Roger Berkowitz, President & CEO of Legal Sea Foods. His presentation entitled “Building Your Brand” focused on how Legal Sea Foods has marketed creatively over the past decade to attract younger customers. Within that time, the company has had to adjust their strategies based on consumer reaction to their advertising campaigns, as well as to what was discovered through their market research. Mr. Berkowitz gave plenty of real life samples that kept the presentation informational and enjoyable.

The following highlight video is a quick glimpse into both the social and informational opportunities that ISES presents each month to its members. Sponsors of the meeting included Legal Harborside, Art of the Event, Inc., Black Thumb Studio, Brookline Ice Company, Entertainment Specialists, Gateway ProductionsJPod Productions, Peterson Party Center, and Winston Flowers.

We were excited to announce that we were invited to take part in the Berkshire Wedding Collective. As a Boston Wedding videographer and cinematographer, we often find ourselves traveling to the western-most parts of Massachusetts to film weddings and events. The Berkshires is just an extremely charming area of the state with beautiful architecture, picturesque views and unique events that are exciting to film. The Cranwell Resort, Spa & Golf Club has always been a popular spot on our calendar, but we find ourselves at new, different venues, as well as private properties for fabulous events and weddings every year. You can see our Berkshire Wedding Collective profile page HERE.

The Berkshire Wedding Collective was founded by Tara of Tara Consolati, marketing + pr. The Collective  is a carefully curated collection of only the finest wedding professionals serving the magnificent Berkshire hills in Western Massachusetts.  It is an exclusive, “by invitation only” group of businesses that Tara trusts and respects. Truly the best of the best!  As Tara puts it, “when it comes to planning your wedding in the Berkshires, second-best just isn’t good enough.” The Collective is the destination wedding resource in the Berkshires–operating as a “Berkshires wedding concierge.”

The support for wedding videography / cinematography continues to grow with more and more people inside and outside of the wedding industry realizing the value of a quality wedding video. The most recent article to be released comes from the Huffington Post, which states three reasons why you should budget for a wedding videographer. You can view the article HERE. One reason that they give is that cinematographers will capture what you didn’t see. I love that the Huffington Post spotlights this quality, as we take pride in capturing family and friend reactions to the vows, first dance and other moments throughout the day that our couples will miss due to being “in the moment”.

In the coming months, we will be releasing a new “about us” film that will tell what our Boston wedding videos are all about. This weekend, we will be shooting a wedding film for Tara Fleming, who is the third of three daughters in the Fleming family to get married. We are ecstatic to share in another wedding day with the Flemings, as I feel like we have become a part of their family. Last week, Tara’s sister Stephanie and her husband Mike sat down to tell us about the value of their wedding film from JPod Productions. This quick snippet will be a part of our larger production that will be released in 2014. It helps explain the importance of budgeting for a quality Boston wedding video for you wedding.

It’s been a couple of years since JPod Productions participated in a bridal show, but we have really hit it off with Fran Imhoff, wedding coordinator at Alyson’s Orchard in Walpole, New Hampshire. She started an intimate bridal show a few years back and it has grown quite a bit over the past few years. Taking part in the show allows us Boston wedding videographers to get outside the city and explore the beautiful Mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont.  It provides lots of great, new settings for our wedding films.

This year’s Alyson’s Orchard Simply Elegant Bridal show took place last Sunday, November 10th from Noon until 2:30. Dozens of vendors and hundreds of brides with their family and friends packed the orchard’s reception space, Robert’s Hall,  as wedding planning was the topic of the afternoon. While we promoted our Boston Wedding videos at the JPod Productions booth, we were still able to take a few shots of the show during the set-up and while the crowds moved through the building. The following video is a quick look at the wedding show, which is becoming a staple in the New Hampshire and Southern Vermont Wedding communities.
