The first time we met Miriam and Dan, it was via an hour-long skype meeting from their New York City apartment. The couple was well prepared and very thorough in the initial meeting, but what I remember most about the meeting was a great connection that was established throughout the evening. I love a couple that has their act together and I could see early on that Mirian and Dan had the makings for a great Boston wedding video. This Boston Wedding video is about a groom who doubted that there may be a perfect romantic match for him, until he met a girl named Miriam.

Miriam and Dan chose an iconic Boston theme for their wedding weekend, which started with a rehearsal dinner at the Anthem Kitchen + Bar in Faneuil Hall. With a T-train place card display that included reception tables named after train stops, to a photo session that crossed the city to numerous famous Boston sites, the wedding had a true, iconic Boston feel. The continuous activities from the Tish, Ketubah signing, pre-ceremony reception, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were littered with special touches that made the day exciting to film. There were plenty of great personal and family touches by the bride, as the lace from her mother’s wedding dress was stitched into Miriam’s veil, the pearls were designed and built throughout the milestones of Miriam’s childhood, the tallit of the Chuppah was sewn together with several different connections to each family, and the cake cutting utensils dated back to Miriam’s grandparents.

The weekend started with an emotional rehearsal dinner at Anthem Kitchen + Bar in Faneuil Hall in Quincy Market. The Royal Sonesta Boston, neighboring the Charles River, was the setting for most of the wedding day events. We had a fun time traveling on the Original Party Trolley with Miriam and Dan and their wedding party in our afternoon photo session with Randall + Theresa from Garnick-Moore Photography. The ceremony was eloquently planned with the help of Paula Marrero from Marrero Events and romantically lit by Paul and Fritz Bosch from Boston Event Lighting. As Boston Wedding videographers, it was a fun wedding to film.

One of the largest trends that has swept through the wedding industry is the use of uplighting in wedding venue spaces. At first, we were only seeing uplighting in our upscale Newport and Boston wedding videos, but now the trend is everywhere. To help breakdown the science of uplighting, I have enlisted Jim Powers of CJC Event Lighting to give an uplighting 101 lesson for this month’s wedding video tip. Jim has been responsible for uplighting several of our Boston wedding films in the past few years.

In part two of our wedding tip, Jim covers the difference between higher end lights used by professionals and less attractive lights used by some other add-on vendors. Jim will also talk about pin spotting which adds some nice white light to a reception room, as well as highlights elegant or important features like tall centerpieces or the wedding cake. I must add, that as a Boston wedding videographer who sees lots of different venues with uplighting, I prompted Jim to talk about the difference between “DJ’ lighting and professional lighting. There are some disc jockeys and other vendors who have good knowledge and equipment to uplight a room or space, but there are many others who see it as a quick way to make an extra buck. Use the information in this tutorial to educate yourself and ask the right questions. My favorite quality about CJC Event Lighting, as well as other top event lighting companies is that they will meet with the bride and groom at their venue before the wedding day to look over options in a live setting.

One of the largest trends that has swept through the wedding industry is the use of uplighting in wedding venue spaces. At first, we were only seeing uplighting in our upscale Newport and Boston wedding videos, but now the trend is everywhere. That is a good thing and a bad thing. Proper uplighting can transform rooms into elegant and beautiful ceremony, cocktail and reception spaces that look fabulous in a wedding video. But, who lights your room will make the difference between having some color on your wall and truly transforming a wedding venue.

There are a lot of wedding vendors who offer uplighting, so it is hard to figure out what you are getting in the end.  To help breakdown the science of uplighting, I have enlisted Jim Powers of CJC Event Lighting to give an uplighting 101 lesson for this month’s wedding video tip. Jim has been responsible for uplighting several of our Boston wedding films lately. I respect the time and effort Jim puts into each client by meeting them at the venue to discuss potential options for the space. In part one of this video wedding tip, Jim will cover color washing your walls, changing colors, and the use of textures.
